Caregivers of Individuals with Eating Dosorders

A “caregiver” can be a parent, partner, friend, grandparent, child, sibling, roommate or any other person taking care of someone with an eating disorder. Taking care of a person with an eating disorder is a huge responsibility and comes along with significant personal pressure. “Caregivers” often report that supporting their loved one affects their physical and mental health.

Diagnosing a person with an eating disorder can cause stress, confusion, guilt and frustration to family and friends. Although professional treatment and therapy is necessary for a person with an eating disorder to recover, “caregivers” can also play a significant role in the recovery process.
We understand that providing such support can be practically and emotionally difficult for the supporter, especially when trying to cope with a host of other responsibilities. For this reason, through collaboration with professionals experienced in eating disorders, we provide the “caregivers” with the mentality and skills that enable them to support the person with bulimia nervosa, anorexia or overeating disorder in moving towards recovery.

We create a personalized guidance program that provides basic information about eating disorders, effective communication skills, practical skills to provide nutritional support, relapse prevention planning, strategies for caregivers to take care of their own mental health.
